Understanding more about the road to recovery and what it takes to get there helps us to trust the process a little more. Aside from general talk therapy, these are the most common modalities that I will use in a therapy session.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT)
TF-CBT is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma or have been through traumatic life events. It involves support from a non-offending parent or caregiver. TF-CBT is used as a treatment modality to reduce trauma-related symptoms through affect regulation and cognitive coping.
The components are:
Psychoeducation and Parenting Skills
Relaxation and Stress Management Skills
Affective Expression and Modulation
Cognitive Coping and Processing
Trauma Narration
In-vivo Exposure
Conjoint Parent-Child Sessions
Enhancing Personal Safety and Future Development

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a recognised effective treatment for PTSD. It uses physiological interventions such as bilateral stimulations to process traumatic memories, and often helps to alleviate distress associated with intense traumatic memories. Other mental health issues it can help with are anxiety, depression, addictions, behavioural difficulties, relationship issues and personality disorders.
The phases include:
History and Treatment planning
Preparation
Assessing the Target Memory
Desensitization
Installation
Body Scan
Closure
Reevaluation
